Your patience knows no bounds, given the other projects you have completed to a very high standard I’m looking forward to seeing how this one progresses
I think I’ve just become experienced enough to know it won’t work first time 🤣
Brilliant video James, great to see trains running and excited to see how the layout progresses 👍
Thanks, it certainly is great to see trains running it’s been a long time coming but finally got there
Really valuable stuff here in lots of areas ! Great to watch your problem solving, I've learned a lot of things to watch out for.
Awesome stuff I’m certainly no expert so if my mistakes and fault finding help others than at least I haven’t completely wasted my time 😆
Peco and Legacy bullhead track comes with correct sleeper spacing.
Indeed but there’s no concrete sleepers
Always interesting to see how somebody else builds their layout!👍 The Colbalt motors look very similar to Tortoise - never needed to dismantle one even after two decades. 🙂 _If you want an interesting urban viaduct to model, take a look at New Viaduct Street in Manchester where railway and road both pass over the Ashton Canal with all three passing over the River Medlock. Adjacent to this the road and railway pass over Metrolink….._
Oh cool I’ll have to look at that sounds like an interesting piece of engineering
@@WesternSignalman Please do - it is an absolutely fascinating urban location which I know well from planning the Metrolink line through there. 👍
I like that idea of yours to haul a goods train out to the fiddle yard with 1 loco and then send out another loco to retrieve the wagons and bring them back; I am going to bank that idea. On the elevated curved section, did you consider using DCCconcepts PowerBase system to assist the more uncooperative locos?
No I didn’t use power base I just had them too high and the length elevation too short the card adaptation was a much better fit
@@WesternSignalman Was it the tilt was too much or the gradient of the climb?
@NewModelRailway1 tilt was too high for the gradient
Fabulous layout! labour of love and thanks for sharing the journey!!!😊
Thank you and thanks for watching
Thank you very much for giving my grandson's Dylington Model Railway channel a shout-out. It really is very much appreciated. We're all about having fun with our modelling, and as you may have seen, Dylan has just embarked on his own a 009 layout build. Thank you again...cheers James and Dylan 🙂👍
No problem we always like to shout out the little guys
@WesternSignalman thank you. My grandson (12) spent hours on the stop-motion, ten hours filming the Dukes of Hazzard one, and then there was the editing. There will be more updates on his 009 layout, which he will be doing 99% of the work on....cheers James 🙂👍
Thank you for sharing. Top notch commentary too.
Thank you very much glad you enjoyed
@@WesternSignalman It is really informative as always. BTW, I think I might have heard your voice in the background of the first video on Brockwell Lane's demu video. Is it you? First layout
Grosmont (NYMR) has the advantage of a connection to the NR Esk Valley line, which occasionally has the HST Midland Pullman and Whitby Flyer steam specials. And it’s good for running Harry Potter or Indiana Jones Nazi trains!
Modelling heritage railways is turning Rule 1 into Prototypical. Long may it continue. Good call on giving a shout out to Dylington. I think it's a granddad and grandson channel where they do some great stop motion camera work in addition to running trains.
It sure is I think that’s what makes it so great
I actually managed to get to the DEMU show this year. There were some brilliant items of rolling stock on show, not to mention the layouts themselves! Apart from the loopy- tunes at Sutton Coldfield station on Sunday lunch time the show was well worth a visit. Great video👍 Cheers John b 😎
It’s one of my favourite shows of the year
as ever nice review, unfortunately no steam layouts…
I think that's why it's called demu, I could be wrong though
@@funkyx486 as I'm not familiar with this exhibition, didn't know it was modern stuf exclusive…
Oh no, no steam layouts here that’s a dirty word at this exhibition 😆 glad you enjoyed the video
@@WesternSignalman I always enjoy jour video's, you even made this dull modern stuff exiting🤣… All jokes aside, I should have known with the title of the show "DEMU" that's it all about new stuff, but I was not familiar with this show and it's specific concept, mia culpa.
Great video. I was there myself Saturday morning and just noticed I missed some of the layouts and the Bachmann stand 😢
Yes they opened the Bedford Suite this year it wasn’t that obvious so I can see why you missed it (it was also really hot in that room)
Loving the MRRP, your hosting combination works really well and you're finding your stride. The interview within Various Multiple Units was especially good.
Thank you glad you enjoyed
Nice episode and interesting Fight Club. I won't mention anything about the Lord Nelson / Waterloo faux pas because I don't think anyone else noticed. I'm sure he would easily have won that battle except for one small technicality. 😶
I noticed.. I had to go back and listen again...
We’re here to talk about trains not boats 😆
@@WesternSignalman Interesting 'not-boat' fact: George Stephenson's first locomotive was called Blücher after the Prussian General Blücher whose army assisted The Duke of Wellington's allied army at Waterloo. Apparently, Stephenson followed the events of the Napoleonic Wars and I guess developed an admiration for Blücher during that period.
Brilliant video. Really enjoyed the commentary as well. It’s good to hear a bit of context when watching these exhibition videos. The yellow vehicle in the shed on Fenwick TMD is a mobile maintenance train. I’ve worked on one a couple of times myself. Brilliant piece of kit!
Is that what it is, I recognised it but wasn’t certain what it was exactly
Thanks for taking videos of Gordon’s Lane. Great to finally meet you too! Sorry about the signalling.
The nurse will be coming to take a sample later 🤣 good to meet you too
@@WesternSignalman haha it was fixed for Sunday running. It was great to meet you James.
Thank you putting together a super video and commentary, being on holiday means I had to miss out on a visit missing seeing many top class modelled layouts. A few which I hope to book in the future with a invite to the Stafford Exhibition Terry
There was some really top draw layouts this year Blueball Summit is just gorgeous
Thank you for the video. As usual, going to the trouble of narrating the show adds a massive amount to the video and makes a potentially dry and very difficult to bother relating to series of images far more enjoyable.
Your welcome I’m glad you enjoy the videos makes the effort worth while
Agreed! It definitely makes a massive difference.
Top drawer work there Steve!
Wright?!
Interesting video - thank you. 👍 In terms of the delightful Waddon Marsh layout and the polyblock gauging train, the Queen Marys were used as viewing platforms by RA&G staff. Initially Lab 15 was used and when this wasn't available, we used Lab 1 (if I recall with a long pantograph well) coupled to a Mk3 sleeper coach borrowed from Hornsey. There were multiple cameras mounted on the Mk3 coach and on both Queen Marys with video recorders in the Lab coach. Can recall a tight 'Down' platform at Riddlesdown dislodging one of the lateral cameras on the Mk3. One of the Queen Marys was the converted LBSCR Elevated Electrics Motor Coach. The three rings of polystyrene blocks (and blocks underneath each stepboard) represented a composite maximum kinematic envelope for Networkers, 319, 455, Sprinters (etc) and the proposed Eurostar stock. One interesting run was between Redhill and Guildford - two Queen Marys, Mk3 sleeper and Lab 1 behind a solo class 73 on diesel (with signalmen under strict instruction not to check the train) - a slow 20mph crawl up from Deepdene but we made it! Then there was an irate station manager at Victoria who hadn't read his WON and only found out about our arrival when the Lab 1 generators and coal stoves in each of the Queen Marys set off the station fire alarms - such memories.
I did wonder what the train was I assumed from the shape around the park 3 it’s was for gauge testing, I remember someone at work saying something similar was carried out in the Heathrow tunnels for testing gauging clearances for the eursostar stock. Thanks for sharing a great story 👍
@@WesternSignalman The formation was hauled around much of the Southern as a quick means of locating the potential fouling points which would clip (sometimes knock off) the polystyrene. Those locations were subsequently followed up with site inspections and gauging measurements - most were clear. However, can recall the WR getting upset as their newly upgraded platform 3 at Reading (before heading down to Basingstoke) dislodged the polystyrene - it wasn't actually foul as the blocks were set for worst case at maximum line speed. Remember, this was before RTC Derby had a reliable structure gauging train.
Royalty free pianist = best pianist. Some very nice looking and well modelled layouts there. Thank you for bringing them to us.
It was a really high standard
As a 70s child loved the diesels 👍
It’s a kettle free zone 😁
A splendid number of great layouts. Just perfect for me as there's no Steam Trains. A fine video, thankyou.
Anyone who said the S word was quickly ejected from the venue 😆
@@WesternSignalman Hahahaha, i would have paid good money just to see that.
Great video as always dude
Your so Wright Steve, thanks
Enjoying these and helping my thought process as I decide whether or not to build a TT layout. Thanks. Has your Class 08 got used to slow speed, or still stalling?
I’ll be honest I stopped with the TT build as I felt Hornby where too slow getting stuff out. Of course now it’s a different story they seem to be churning stuff out and if I was to start again I’d probably do 1970/80s as this seems best catered for.
Another well commentated video, I particularly liked Ridgemont as I'm only 20 mins from it and often take a ride from Bedford to Bletchley and return just for the ride along a scenic line
Thank you, it is a lovely scenic bit of line to travel on isn’t it although that planned theme park my change things 😂
Something else to look at 😂
I was going to say, something I should have done before starting my little shelf was prototyping or mocking up, be it 1:1 or at a smaller scale. When you have an idea on paper and on a 2D CAD file (I use AnyRail) it never quite portrayed how I had it pictured in my head when it came down to laying track and cutting out a hole for a scratchbuilt turntable. Mock up your layouts and structures folks, it's worth the time.
I believe Paul A Lunn is quite the promoter of 3d mock ups it certainly can help.
Nice to hear Dan on the air. Re layouts, he obviously missed our Club's old layout, 'Manor Park' Plenty of EMUs. ua-cam.com/video/I3Mp8744cLs/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
Ohh nice
Thanks for another great podcast. I will hopefully see Sam and Danny at Chatham MRC Exhibition in July.
Glad you enjoyed it
Aaahhh the best to last.. on30 haha thanks for that amazing video. It’s always a good day when your latest pops up lol.
It only ended up last as had to keep coming back due to technical difficulties but worth the wait
@@WesternSignalman haha that’s a bugger. I have ordered my new ng7 loco and I absolutely can’t wait to see what the world off modellers do with this new range.
Best exhibition video I have seen. Hi from NZ , Bernie
Thanks I have loads more like it 😁
Great video and very well narrated once again, keep up the good work.👍
Thanks and thanks for watching
Thank you sharing! 👍 The 'knitting' at Klapping was very impressive and so rarely modelled. ⚡ East Ansty was lovely - always have the upmost respect for those modellers depicting real locations. 😎
The mind boggles how you model the overheads like that on a portable layout
@@WesternSignalman Typical practice is to have fixed overhead with removable sections across the board joints. It isn't always easy to achieve. _As an aside friend's (fixed) OHLE layout has fully operation overhead including section breaks!_
Very well presented. It was a pleasant change to watch a well filmed exhibition with an equally well crafted voice over. I was also happy to hear a western man giving a shout out for NSE layouts. I wonder if Hornby might venture into that modelling area with TT:120. For anyone who hasn't heard MRRP podcasts yet, I can highly recommend them. They are quite entertaining.
I would certainly like to see NSE, if you look at the range they seem to be focusing on delivering 70/80s models maybe this is the ideal target market for emerging modellers coming into the hobby
Was very impressed by the layout when I saw it at Railex last month and a great video - as usual!
Thank you and it is a brilliant layout isn’t it
Wouldn't ha e found these but today I've taken a day off from layout uilding and saw a link by Dan Havlik. So will follow now. Have you considered having some modelling mates on with differing ideas and opinions. Good luck as I'm sure will develop well. I'll be watching.
Thank you, yes we may change format in the future I have said we need a James may to the podcast 😆
Re comments. Im afraid a lot of Eop.e are unab.e to use the english language to express themselves in writing.
This can be true of many and how it is interpreted also plays a part in that.
Just discoveredthese podcasts. Seems very good.
Thanks Dave glad your enjoying them
Another entertaining offering.
Thank you
Are you going to do any more videos? I don’t listen to the podcasts.
Why not? The idea of our podcast is something model railway related you can listen too in the background whilst working on your layout or playing in your car. Why don’t you give it a try? I will be doing more videos but the layout is at a stage of track laying and wiring and not a particular intresting watch to put out every few weeks. Also not been to any shows last month due to clashes with other commitments
I know I am repeating various comments, but I found the commentary really fantastic, really enjoyed seeing the exhibition as well
Thank you very much!
Another great podcast. Heaton Lodge is a fantastic layout, especially considering it's in such a 'large' scale. I'm lucky enough to see the 1:1 scale set-up of the modern version of it from the back of either a 185 or an 802
Thanks, I bet it must be fun to get to compare the real thing to it
I have a small amount of 0 Gauge outside my back door. It’s a complete Mamod train set complete with Mamod track. It’s only a small oval, but it gives my little Mamod steam locomotive and carriages to run around my patio.
👍
I would like to echo Rob's sentiments about your podcast. I find you guys to be entertaining, educational, informative and wholesome. It really adds some balance to the multitude of loco reviews, Metcalfe builds and other assorted content we are treated to on UA-cam.
Thank you, it’s great to know people are enjoying the podcast.

We have a Steampunk layout running at the Whitewebbs Museum of Transport Model Railway Day on 13 July!!
Nice
Having worked with a reasonably local heritage railway, I can confirm that an infinite variety of locomotives, carriages and freight wagons are used.
I bet
I love the locomotives and running trains, but I only have a micro layout in 00!! The layout was made by a friend and older member of the club to which I belong.
Lovely stuff
